Inspired by the expressive, left-of-center styles of modern players like Daniel Lanois, Russ Pahl, and BJ Cole, this specialized Kontakt library is built to give you raw, deeply evocative steel guitar textures without the steep learning curve. Instead of overwhelming you with a wall of technical settings, it provides an intuitive, highly playable interface designed to yield quick, inspiring results right from your MIDI keyboard.

Fluid Movements with Smart Major Scale Bending

The real magic of a physical pedal steel lies in how chords bend fluidly between scale degrees while certain notes stay perfectly in place. Ink Steel replicates this characteristic performance behavior through a clever, performance-first key layout. The library includes eight distinct chord sets and four single-note configurations, all easily selectable from the user interface or via real-time MIDI keyswitches. When you load a chord set, the white keys are mapped to diatonic chords, while the black keys trigger other common harmonic variations (like minor fourths, diminished chords, and flat sevenths). Crucially, the pitch bend wheel is configured to bend exactly within the major scale, giving you those authentic, weeping chord transitions without requiring you to learn complex foot-pedal combinations.

Build Moving Soundscapes with Dual-Behavior Single Notes

For custom melodic lines and unique chord voicings, the single-note sets open up an incredibly creative playground. On these patches, the white keys map directly to the major scale and respond naturally to your pitch bend wheel. The black keys, however, function as duplicate notes from the scale that remain completely unaffected by pitch bending. By playing single notes or double stops and combining keys that bend with keys that do not, you can create intricate, evolving movements and independent string slides that feel organic and hand-played. Additionally, the library features five entirely unique alternative sound profiles ranging from gritty amplifier feedback to 100% wet layers washed in plate reverbs and classic tape delay emulation giving you a massive palette of atmospheric textures right out of the box.
