ANY SOUND BECOMES A GROOVE. NOW IN THE APD SHOP
HD Instruments presents Spectdrum, a rhythmic spectral gate that carves a groove out of sound you already have. Four bands, each playing as its own voice.
Each band runs 1 to 32 steps, so a 7 step Sub rolls against a 16 step Air. Hand-drawn envelopes, reverb and delay sends, plus a master strip with distortion, EQ and maximizer.
Nothing is sampled or synthesized, so no two grooves come out the same. Grab Spectdrum in the APD Shop today for $99, or as low as $79 using your rewards cash.
Available as VST3 and AU plugins for Windows and Mac, including Apple Silicon. Activation is an emailed licence code, verified online once, no iLok.
For every dollar you spend on any Deal or in the Shop, past, present or future, we'll give you back 10% of that in store rewards credit that will be saved in your Rewards Wallet.

Spectdrum is a rhythmic spectral gate, and the simplest way to understand it is to stop reading and listen to one. It takes audio you already have, a pad, a drone, a string section, a vocal, and splits it into four frequency bands: Sub, Low-Mid, High-Mid and Air. Each band then plays as its own rhythmic voice, so the groove that comes back is built entirely out of the sound you fed in.
Nothing is sampled and nothing is synthesized. The rhythm keeps the colour and texture of the source material, which is why no two grooves ever come out the same. Feed it a different pad and you get a different pattern, from the same preset.
Every band runs its own step sequencer, anywhere from 1 to 32 steps, with its own pattern length, per-step velocity, accents and swing. A 7 step Sub pattern rolling against a 16 step Air pattern takes a long time to repeat itself, which is where the polyrhythms come from. Hand-drawn volume, filter, pan and pitch envelopes shape each band, and per-band reverb and delay sends carry pitch shifting inside their feedback loops. The master section finishes with compression, distortion, EQ and a look-ahead maximizer.
If you would rather not place the bands yourself, the learn function reads the spectral content of the incoming audio and sets them for you. Thirty factory presets give you somewhere to start, and the interface resizes to whatever suits your screen.
Spectdrum is an effect, so it goes on a track that already has audio on it. There is a free demo that is the complete plugin with nothing locked, so you can run it on your own material before you decide.
