The German Harpsichords Bundle features two historical German harpsichords from the 18th century:
German Harpsichord 1738 - samples of an instrument by Christian Vater built in 1738. It's got 3 sounds - two single 8' stops and their combination. The texture offers mellow low end and rich low mids and a delicate treble range.
German Harpsichord 1741 - this library's instrument was built by Christian Zell in 1741. We captured its 6 sounds. The instrument provides an elusive majestic texture and beautiful upper mid harmonics unlike any other harpsichord.
The instruments were recorded at 192 kHz/24 bits and downsampled to 44.1 kHz. Harpsichords are not touch-sensitive. However, not any note will sound the same twice due to resonances of body and strings. Therefore, we captured every note with up to 8 variations. The key release sounds are also of major importance for a thorough impression of the instrument. Those were recorded with 4 release samples per note.
The libraries contain nearly 5.300 single samples. Presets are included for Kontakt® - full version required - in the instrument's original pitch (GH 1738: Vallotti, 392 Hz / GH 1741: Bach-Kellner, 399 Hz), and in 440 Hz.
