MPC ONE G vs MPC KEY G@

Akai’s latest MPC models have dropped, giving beat makers and music producers 2 more standalone options: the MPC One G2 and MPC Key 37 G2. Both run MPC3, use a new 8 core processor, support up to 16 stereo audio tracks, and can handle up to 32 plugin instruments in a single project.

AKAI has been pumping out new machines like hotcakes.

Here’s how the two stack up on paper

MPC One G2 Keeps Things Compact

The MPC One G2 is the better fit for music producers who think in pads, samples, and patterns. Its desktop design makes it easy to place beside a turntable, audio interface, or MIDI keyboard without taking over the studio.

You still get the classic MPC workflow for chopping samples, programming drums, arranging songs, and working without a computer. If you already own a keyboard controller, the One G2 gives you the MPC experience without paying for another set of keys.

MPC Key 37 G2 If Playing Keys is Important

The MPC Key 37 G2 combines the same standalone production approach with a 37 key synth action keyboard, pitch and modulation wheels, MPC pads, and aftertouch.

That makes it a great choice for producers who play chords, bass lines, leads, and layered instrument parts. You can move between melodies and drums without reaching for another controller.

The Key 37 G2 also makes sense for anyone building an all in one setup. It handles sampling, sequencing, plugin instruments, audio recording, and keyboard performance from one piece of hardware.

Custom Samples Are Still Important

Both MPCs let you build custom drum programs from your own samples. That means you can load third party kicks, snares, percussion, loops, and one shots, then chop, tune, layer, filter, and process them inside the MPC.

The stock drums are good. However, if you’re looking for some that aren’t in AKAI’s stock. Consider a few of these.

The USB C support will come in handy here as well.

Which New AKAI MPC Should You Buy?

Choose the MPC One G2 if you don’t need keys or already own a MIDI controller, or mainly create with drums and chopped audio.

Go with the MPC Key 37 G2 if you want keys, pads, sampling, and standalone production in one unit. Neither is better and depends on your needs.

For me, I’m looking to consolidate, so the MPC Key 37 is coming in at the right time for that upgrade.

AKAI MPC – Closing Thoughts

Both of these machines offer enough processing power. The One G2 keeps the setup compact, and the Key 37 G2 gives keyboard players a more complete workstation.

Whichever model you choose, you’ll be fine. If you need quality loops and samples to go along with them, check out the store.
