JJG Vocals: a complete vocal channel strip
JJG Vocals puts a whole rack of vocal processing in one window, in signal order: preamp, tape, compressor, EQ, de-esser, Salt enhancer and output. Every module has its own power switch, one main knob and a plate that swaps its circuit. Choose from four preamps (511, 73, TG, 60s), four tape machines (37, 800, Cassette, 102), five compressor modes including chained 76 into 2A and a 6A vari-mu tube limiter, a console-style EQ with 70s and 80s voicings, and two de-essers with a LISTEN mode that plays only what is being removed. One DRIVE knob pushes preamp and tape together with auto gain, HQ mode adds 4x oversampling for clean saturation, and LOW LAT mode lets you track through the chain with zero latency.
Salt: air without the harshness
Salt is an enhancer built from one half of a classic companding noise-reduction circuit. Instead of boosting the top end everywhere like an EQ, it reads the level of your material: quiet passages open up, loud ones are left alone, and nothing turns brittle. Pick the gentle Kosher curve or the wider Pink curve, brighten with Acid or thicken bass and synths with Fat, and set the amount with one Flavor knob. Zero latency, MIDI learn and click-free switching.
Schmear: the widener on 99% of Justin’s vocals
Schmear has exactly three settings, 3, 6 and 9 cents, the same ones Justin uses across his productions. Two short, modulated delay lines pitched in opposite directions spread the vocal wide while keeping it centered and safe when your mix folds to mono. Pick a width, blend it in or put it on a send, and move on.
