Cinematic Awesomeness: Waterharp 2 and Thunder Springs
Hey guys. Jon here again with Audio Plugin Deals. With this review I’m going to be checking out the cinematic awesomeness that is Waterharp 2 & Thunder Springs, from Sample Logic! Looking to make truly epic, spellbinding music? Then you’re in luck with these two Kontakt Libraries from Sample Logic! The inspiration will be seemingly endless with all the atmospheres, arps, drum beats, transitions and more offered between the two banks.
Eye Candy
The GUI (graphic user interface) on both of these instruments simply looks awesome. Thunder Strings looks like a square drum head built into a futuristic synthesizer. And the Waterharp looks like some sort of futuristic synthesizer based off utilizing water within a synth. GUI is far from the most important aspect of libraries or sample banks, but when you see thought and care put into them, you know they’re likely putting that effort other places, as well. Sample Logic’s dedication to developing this visually pleasing aesthetic is definitely supplemental to the great sounds. (I could say the same for a number of the synths I’ve reviewed with Audio Plugin Deals, as well.)

Atmosphere
One of the primary strengths of these libraries is atmospheric patches. Due to this, the vibes of a lot of these sounds add a particular synthesized yet organic sort of melancholy to your productions. Because of this, you’ll likely find yourself lost deep in the inspiration rabbit hole. As such, I recommend you to hit record, if only to capture your ideas as they flow naturally! The atmosphere of these libraries is very rich and vibrant. Particularly the Waterharp 2.
Trancy Arps
Another strength you’ll find in these libraries is trance inspired arpeggiators. I’m not talking about modern trance, however. I’m talking about old school ’90s trance. Fans of early Infected Mushroom will likely find a lot to love with a number of these patches, loops, and arps. I’m not saying the libraries are dated – on the contrary. These libraries are charmingly nostalgic.
Rhythmic Power
Personally, I’d say my favorite aspects of these libraries is their rhythmic patches. They’ve almost got a Wavestation type of vibe. There’s a great blend of atmosphere and the aforementioned nostalgic charm. If you grew up with the Super Nintendo like me, you’ll likely get flashbacks to water levels in the Donkey Kong Country games.
Demo Track
As per usual I have included a demo I made using only these two libraries. It is available for you to listen to below, and is also featured in my video review / demonstration. The cinematic awesomeness of these libraries is on full display.
